Introduction
The RIAI and the Heritage Contractors Register present a recording of the RIAI Conservation / Meet the Craftsman CPD Series: CPD on Repairing’s Sash Windows by Ken Russell. This lecture took place on 7 October 2021.
Course Aim
The aim of the course is to: explain the different styles and designs of early and later Georgian, Victorian and Regency windows; parts that make up box sash windows; how the sashes are jointed together; how to take apart sashes and boxes to repair; identifying different types of glass; how boxes are constructed and repaired in situ or removed and repaired; timber used; hanging sashes; mouldings; removing paint; modern additions (draught strips & double glazing).
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course attendees should have a knowledge of; how to identify repairs needed; how to carry out repairs; different glass and how to identify; how boxes and sashes are made and constructed.
Speaker
Ken Russell has been conserving, restoring and making box sash windows and old shop fronts for over 25 years. He is a listed craftsman with the Irish Georgian Society and Cork City and county council.
