RIAI Simon Open Door
RIAI Simon Open Door 2020
A Sincere Thank You from the RIAI
The RIAI Simon Open Door initiative has been a permanent fixture in the annual calendar of the RIAI. The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the biggest challenges that Ireland and Irish societies have faced. The restrictions on human interactions presented a whole new challenge for this year's campaign. However, it was crucial that a very necessary spotlight was kept on the most vulnerable groups in society. The Simon Communities reported 10,148 people as homeless across Ireland. For this reason, it became imperative for the RIAI and the Simon Communities to continue the campaign during this crisis. The campaign therefore had to be conducted through online consultations. This quickly became the norm and through a massive collaborative effort made by everyone involved, especially the Architects, the campaign was a great success.
Thus far, 199 RIAI Registered Architects across the country have offered 1,418 one-hour consultations to the public for a donation of €95, with every cent of this going directly to the Simon Communities of Ireland.
That is a total of €137,830 raised. The RIAI would like to say a big thank you to the public, the Architects and campaign spokesperson Dermot Bannon MRIAI.
