Full house for Culture Night 2017 at the RIAI

Published: Thursday, October 05, 2017

The RIAI wishes to thank everyone who visited No.8 Merrion Square during Culture Night 2017. Over 500 people crossed our threshold to experience Architecture and the Moving Image. Following an open call for a curator for Culture Night at the RIAI, Stephen Mulhall - an architect and film maker based in Dublin - was selected. Under his winning theme up to 30 film and video screenings were shown inside and outside the RIAI's headquarters from 5pm until 10pm on Friday 22nd of September.

Thank you to the Irish Architectural Archive (IAA) for kindly giving us permission to project images onto our ground floor windows from their Hugh Doran Collection. These personal photographs capture a now vanished Dublin between 1950 and 1970. The other ground floor window was displaying to all the passers-by 'The Big Bank' on the construction of the former Central Bank of Ireland by John Sisk & Co, edited to ten minutes. The contributors to the night were Francis Matthews, Howard Jones, Anne O'Byrne, Henrietta Williams, Flores Prazt Architects, AY Architects, Upstart Collective, Cleary Connolly, Grafton Architects, Hugo Hickey, Stephen Tierney, Donaghy + Dimond Architects, Scullion Architects, Ste Murray, Emily Mannion, Thomas O'Brien, Paddy Cahill, Mary-Ruth Walsh, David Ian Bickley, Verity-Jane Keefe, Sophia Meeres, Luís Urbano, Chris Leslie, Orla Murphy, Sue Barr, Janine Davidson, Matthew Mullin, Julien Miguel, Eoin Dimond, William Spratt-Murphy and Rónán Atkins. Also thank you to Wavelength Picture, Still Film Production, John Flahive (Producer) and Mark Noonan (Director) for giving us the trailer of the feature film Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect (2017). This was the first time the trailer was seen by the public. Last but not least thank you to the three UCD architecture students Chloe Loh, Ellen Ryan and Ciara McCormack who volunteered to help us on the night.
