BIM Guide for SMEs
The BIM Guide for SMEs attempts to provide assistance to sole practitioners and SMEs to transition from 2D CAD to BIM, suggesting a series of sequential steps to achieve the ultimate goal of BIM implemented to ISO 19650 series. While references are made to other RIAI publications on BIM standards and guidance documents, prior knowledge and understanding of these documents is not essential. From past surveys, BIM remains a significant challenge for SME businesses, which make up a large proportion of the construction industry. There is a significant need to provide quality guidance to those in this sector regarding the qualitative and standard requirement recommended to ensure all projects are using similar standards, and what aspects of the ISO standards can be applied to suit the programme, size and complexity of a project.
