Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC)

The focus of the conference will be on climate change with the goal of connecting and engaging existing and new members, stakeholders and supporters to the cause and providing actionable solutions to reduce GHG emissions and meet 2030 targets.

The conference includes many opportunities to network and make business connections, including:

  • Welcome Reception on Showcase floor
  • Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony
  • Over 30 education sessions
  • Three plenary keynote addresses
  • Business to business matchmaking sessions
  • Green Business Showcase featuring innovative products and services from across the Canadian green building industry

CaGBC is offering International delegates additional support and extra networking opportunities.

REGISTRATION FEE FOR INTERNATIONAL DELEGATES $650 + GST (5%)

This fee includes all elements of the detailed program, including the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

Travel and accommodations are not included.

Additional fees apply to booth purchase on the Green Business Showcase floor and to attend any of the preconference tours or Summit on Tuesday. Tour fees are CDN $50 per half day tour. Summit fee is $100.

Join the pre-conference green building site tours for a behind the scenes experience of some of Vancouver’s greenest buildings. Choose to add one or two of the following tours to your registration.

Setting the Standard for Health and Wellness in Downtown Commercial Buildings
This walking tour will visit a range of commercial projects in downtown Vancouver which are incorporating health, wellness and sustainability into building design and operations. Sites include: Oxford Place, featuring the MNP Tower which is targeting WELL building standard certification [Core and Shell]; the CaGBC Vancouver office, pursuing LEED v4 for Commercial Interiors certification; CBRE offices, targeting WELL Building Standard certification; and TELUS Garden Office Tower, which was recently certified LEED Platinum.

Wood on the Rise: A Walking Tour of UBC Wood Buildings
This walking tour at University of British Columbia will explore the theme of wood, stopping at the Centre for Research on Sustainability, the Bio-Energy Research Centre and Brock Commons - an innovative tall wood hybrid building under construction at UBC. Once completed (May 2017) it will be one of the tallest mass timber hybrid structures in the world at 18 storeys (53 metres). Other sites include: Earth Sciences Building, the First Nations House of Learning, and the Nest to sample the variety of wood design on campus.

Marine Gateway: An Ambitious, Transit-oriented Mixed-Use Development Marine Gateway is setting the benchmark for future transit-oriented projects. This new mixed-use development in south Vancouver is the first major development to be
approved along the Canada Line. Guided by members of the project team who made this development a reality, guests will learn about this 820,000 square foot mixed-use development which includes a district energy geo-exchange heating and cooling system with an ambient heat recovery energy loop, thermal mass, sun shading devices, and green roofs.

Option 2: The Net Zero Carbon Buildings Summit $100

This full-day pre-conference event launches the CaGBC’s new Zero Carbon Building Standard for commercial, institutional, and multi-residential buildings in Canada.
The Summit will feature five technical sessions addressing the key challenges and opportunities for net zero design and construction and an exclusive lunch plenary represented by a diverse panel of international experts. Delegates will be introduced to the foundational components of zero carbon buildings and real-life strategies for modelling energy consumption and carbon emissions, keeping zero carbon construction affordable, integrating renewables, evaluating the carbon footprint of building materials, and innovating to zero carbon.

Net Zero Carbon Buildings Summit Lunch
Vancouver Convention Centre
Net Zero Carbon Buildings Summit Lunch Plenary will feature an international panel of experts in net zero policy, design and construction in a facilitated discussion led by the City of Vancouver. The panel will begin with an introduction of policy and program mechanisms that have been introduced in other nations to drive net zero buildings.
Through an in-depth discussion of how GHGs have been effectively reduced through net zero buildings, experts will disclose lessons learned, legislative actions, strategic engagement with the building sector, and how education programs have supported widespread awareness and adoption.

Building Lasting Change Welcome Reception on the Showcase Floor
Vancouver Convention Centre
International delegates will attend the Building Lasting Change Welcome Reception on the Showcase floor. Here they will meet Canadian conference delegates and exhibitors as the CaGBC kicks off two days of learning and networking.


WEDNESDAY, MAY 31

Opening Plenary

Join the conference delegates at the Opening Plenary for breakfast and a keynote Presentation.

09:45-12:15hrs and 14:45-17:15hrs Building Lasting Change Education Vancouver Convention Centre
Following the Opening keynote, a series of 10 education breakout sessions will round out the morning with another 10 sessions in the afternoon. Educational streams cover topics such as net zero carbon buildings, targeted actions for existing buildings, commercial green real estate, international innovations, and large scale city transformations.

Green Business Showcase
Vancouver Convention Centre
Lunch will be served on the Showcase floor, following a guided tour for International delegates. The Showcase allows delegates to network and learn about some of the most innovative companies, products and services that Canada’s green building industry has to offer. The guided tour will provide an introduction to innovative green building products and technologies.

Business-to-Business Meetings on the Showcase Floor
Vancouver Convention Centre
International delegates will explore opportunities for trade and partnership with their Canadian counterparts at matchmaking sessions in the afternoon in designated B2B areas on the Showcase floor. CaGBC is pleased to offer International delegates custom hands-on assistance when scheduling their B2B meetings prior to and onsite.

Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony
Vancouver Convention Centre
The Gala Dinner and CaGBC Leadership Awards Ceremony will take place Wednesday evening. Come celebrate the top individuals, companies and buildings in the industry.


THURSDAY, JUNE 1

International delegates will meet with their Canadian counterparts at matchmaking sessions in the morning and afternoon, to explore opportunities for trade and partnership. CaGBC is pleased to offer International delegates custom hands on assistance in scheduling their B2B meetings prior to and onsite.
