Wood Awards Ireland Announcement
The winners for the Wood Awards 2021 were announced today (26 March) via webinar. Organised by the Wood Marketing Federation and Forest Industries Ireland in partnership with the RIAI, the Wood Awards Ireland demonstrate innovation in a wide range of wood based projects in architecture, furniture, research, craft and restoration.
The awards showcased exemplary highly innovative timber design projects and highlighted the benefits of utilising timber in the built environment to reduce environmental impacts.
Minister of State Pippa Hackett TD, launched the event and Ciaran O'Connor FRIAI, RIAI President, State Architect and Jury Chairperson, conducted interviews with some of the winning architects including Robert Bourke, Robert Bourke Architects and John Tuomey, O’Donnell + Tuomey.
He also interviewed James Moloney from Overall Winner Sisk; John Desmond from Irish timber frame company Cygnum; Conan O’Ceallaigh from the Timber Engineering Research Group at NUIG Galway; and Irish furniture designer Alan Meredith. Also contributing to the interviews were students Elysia Taylor, TU Dublin and Eoghan Smith, UCD.
The Wood Awards Ireland winners will receive sculptures made by renowned artist and sculptor Michael Warren HonMRIAI.
