RIAI Professional Practice Examination 2027, new programme opens 1 October 2026
Applications for the RIAI Professional Practice Examination 2027 programme will open on 1 October 2026.
The programme will run from February 2027 to October 2027, and successful candidates will be eligible for admission to the RIAI Register of Architects.
The admission criteria for the programme are:
- RIAI Architectural Graduate Membership (this ensures that the applicant has a prescribed or equivalent qualification in Architecture). We strongly recommend that intending applicants apply for Architectural Graduate membership now to avoid enrolment delay or difficulties.
- A minimum of twenty-four months post-qualification (i.e., post B Arch or M Arch) experience under the supervision of a RIAI Registered Architect (or equivalent in another jurisdiction). At least twelve months of post-qualification experience must be in Ireland. Please note that ‘year out’ experience during the five-year period of architectural education does not count.
- A ready-to-go Case Study project which will be at least 70% complete through the construction stage by 30 September 2027.

In addition to the RIAI Professional Practice Examination, programmes are offered at UCD and TU Dublin. Each course has different entry requirements and programme content, so intending applicants should consider which programme suits their circumstances best.
