Introduction

This one hour online lecture comprises of a live recording of a RIAI & Heritage Contractors Register ‘Meet the Craftsman’ lecture which took place on 30 January 2020 featuring George O’Malley (George O'Malley Plastering).

George O’Malley presents a lecture on the importance of using lime and the importance of stabilizing ceilings properly. George will also be giving an overview of some of the work completed in the restoration of St. Mel's Cathedral in Longford.

Taking part in the online series will provide Architects, as specifiers for heritage projects, with an insight into how the works they specify are carried out by craftsmen in heritage projects. Each talk will include the craftsman’s personal perspective on the conservation and restoration works in which they specialise.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of these CPDs attendees should understand how specified works are carried out by the various craftsmen involved. Crafts covered during the series will include ironwork and metalwork, joinery, decorative plasterwork, façade cleaning, masonry rebuild & repair (stone & brick), lime render and structural repairs.

This online CPD course is delivered via RIAI Digital Chalk.
