Niall McCullough Lecture Series: Wim Wenders - Booked Out

We are delighted to announce that this year's Niall McCullough Lecture will be given by Wim Wenders on Wednesday, 1 April at 6:30 pm in the Edmund Burke Theatre, Trinity College Dublin. Wim Wenders will speak to us about his work on Film and the City.

Wim Wenders (born 1945 in Düsseldorf) became internationally known as one of the protagonists of the New German Cinema of the 1970s. Today, he is considered one of the most important figures of contemporary world cinema. His work as screenwriter, director, producer, photographer, and author includes multiple award-winning feature and documentary films, photo exhibitions presented worldwide, and numerous photo books, film books, and text collections. He lives and works in Berlin with his wife, Donata Wenders. His films WINGS OF DESIRE (1987) and PERFECT DAYS (2023) have long been admired for their profound engagement with urban life and the human experience of place. His films were a significant influence on Niall McCullough’s thinking, as they have been for many architects in Ireland. Wim Wenders is currently making a film about the work of architect Peter Zumthor and his building, LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art).

The Niall McCullough Lecture series marks the legacy and spirit of Niall McCullough FRIAI (1958-2021). Speakers who share common ground with Niall’s many interests – from modern architecture, ancient sites and buildings, radical interventions in older buildings, books, photography, film, music, and nature – will share a range of insights to be developed over the life of the lecture series.
