The RIAI is delighted to present a live CPD focused on Working with Thatch Buildings by Gareth O’Callaghan, MRIAI and Richard McLoughlin, MRIAI on 29 April hosted over Zoom platform.
Course Aim
The aim is to demonstrate conservation best practice in bringing traditional thatch cottages back into use. The impact of planning and building regulations will be discussed.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course attendees should have a knowledge of:
- Techniques and best practice methodologies used in the conservation and restoration of a number of thatch cottages
Speakers
Richard McLoughlin, MRIAI
Richard McLoughlin is an RIAI Grade 1 Conservation Architect. He graduated from UCD in 1987 and worked for Josef Paul Kleihues in his offices in Berlin and Chicago. He is a graduate of the master’s programme in Built Heritage Conservation at the Technical University (TU) Berlin. As a founder director of Lotts Architecture and Urbanism, he has completed a wide range of conservation projects for public and private clients. He is a member and former chair of the RIAI Historic Buildings Committee.
Gareth O’Callaghan, MRIAI
Gareth is a director of JCA Architects and an RIAI accredited conservation architect at Grade 1He is vice chair of the RIAI Historic Building Committee.
With JCA he has worked on many conservation projects from National monuments to complex urban sites and domestic projects. He runs the conservation module which is part of the degree course in Cork Centre for Architectural Education (CCAE)
