About the All-Ireland Architecture Research Group (AIARG) Conference
The 15th All-Ireland Architecture Research Group (AIARG) Conference runs 5 - 7 March at CCAE Cork, and if you're questioning how our discipline responds to climate and territorial crises, this is worth attending.
Themed 'Architecture in the Critical Zone', the conference draws on philosopher Bruno Latour and curator Peter Weibel's work exploring the gap between the sovereign land from which we derive rights and the terrestrial land from which we derive wealth and sustenance. The 'Critical Zone' describes the earth's fragile biochemical surface where life is created, but Latour extends the term to address our disconnection from the systems that support us. The conference invites architects, landscape architects, historians, ecologists and geographers to reconsider practice in response. What makes this particularly interesting is the format: contributions may take the form of traditional papers, drawings, films, designed artefacts or hybrids, reflecting a genuine openness to research by design and creative practice.
Keynote speakers include Alexandra Arenes, Sébastien Marot and Amin Taha.
