Outlining the purpose of the event Carole Pollard stated in her speech “The purpose of the Women in Architecture event this evening is to shine a light on the wonderful contribution that women architects make to the profession. It is a resounding endorsement of what women architects achieve every day in practice and a way of recognising the ongoing need to tap into the particular resource that women bring to the profession. Architecture straddles both the arts and the technological sectors, and so must meet the challenges of both nurturing female creative talent and simultaneously sustaining commercial growth. What events like this one are aiming to do is underline and emphasise the tangible and measurable benefits of gender balance in the architectural practice'.
