New Look for Architecture Ireland – Reflecting Changes in the Built Environment

A new design for Architecture Ireland was launched by RIAI Director John Graby on 12 February in the RIAI.  Attending the launch were contributors to the magazine, the Architecture Ireland editorial board, members of RIAI Council and the magazine’s advertising supporters.

Launching the new design, RIAI Director John Graby said the new design “reflects the changing times and the change in architecture, with surveys indicating an upward trend in work for Irish practices alongside more specialisation of practice.” The Director added: “The other change is the changing and much more diverse role of the architect. Architects don’t just design buildings – a complex role in itself – but they are dealing with the challenges of sustainability, urban design, conservation, and a new emphasis on technology in the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2012, shortly to be signed into law by Minister Phil Hogan. In this context, Architecture Ireland will strengthen and develop its role as a key information source for architects and architectural technologists.” John Graby concluded:  Our members value Architecture Ireland in print form. They keep the magazine and we often receive requests for back issues.”

Architecture Ireland Editor Sandra O’Connell thanked the contributors, editorial board, magazine designers and advertisers, saying that the magazine production was a “collaborative task”. “Irish Architecture has become more internationalised, specialised and, at the same time, diversified in recent years and these changes are reflected in the content and design. The building features still form the heart of the magazine but presented alongside are topical articles, relevant interviews and the must-read information on legislation and regulation, which are having an increasing impact on the work of architects and architectural technologists.”

The new design was developed by magazine design house Evolve Design. Architecture Ireland is published on behalf of the RIAI by Nova Publishing.
