Launch of Issue 4 of RIAI house+design

Published: Friday, May 24, 2019

The latest issue of RIAI’s house + design is now in shops nationwide. As Ireland’s only magazine for architect-designed homes, our objective is to provide you with inspiration and advice for your building or home renovation project. A common finding among the client featured in this issue is that their architect has made them see their home with new eyes and showed them possibilities they had never imaged. As the clients of one home put it
This house gives us everything. It’s magical

We are also aware that the ‘home search’ - whether for first time buyers or those trading up or down - continues to be difficult, due to the long lead-in time it takes to get housing supply match housing needs. As the professional body for Architects, we believe that there should be more opportunities for people who wish to stay in their area or neighbourhood, close to friends and facilities, but that we need to look at innovative ideas for up or down-sizing.

In our 2019 issue we therefore present projects that have taken on ‘left-over’ sites, as they exist plentiful in our suburbs, towns and villages and turned them into inspiring homes. We also feature a two-bed apartment that has been cleverly remodelled to create a sense of space combined with lots of storage and a separate utility room. Our feature ‘Space Makers’ presents innovative solutions for home extensions. Last but not least, we feature under the theme of Splendid Isolation’ - a selection of architect-designed homes in stunning locations. As is a unique feature of house + design, all projects come complete with plans and top tips from the architects. Each project tells the story of how clients and architects working closely together can transform a home through better space and light, leading to outstanding results.

In topical news, we interview Architect and broadcaster Dermot Bannon on his partnership with the RIAI Simon Open Door campaign and feature extensive coverage of the famous German Bauhaus school, which celebrates its centenary this year.
We hope you will find inspiration for your home!
