Irish architectural practice Henry J Lyons Architects received the Design Project of the Year Award for the 26 York Street RCSI at this year KPMG Irish Independent Property Industry Excellence Awards,  which was held in the Convention Centre, Dublin 8 November.

Irelands 2018 Property Industry Excellence Award winners demonstrate that the Irish property sector is exceling in its ability, determination and capacity to help Irelands economy flourish and to face many challenges, in particular its biggest ever - housing. Irelands population is expected to exceed 6.2 million by 2050. Residential construction is clearly off to a good start but there are major challenges ahead to deliver the amount of housing needed at affordable prices.

This was a highly discussed issue amongst property industry stakeholders; contractors, architects, designers, commercial & residential agencies, developers, and investment managers who convened at the Convention Centre Dublin last night for the announcement of the winners of the highly contested KPMG Irish Independent Property Industry Excellence Awards.

The awards, now in their 4th year, reward and honour excellence, setting the benchmark for professionalism in the sector. Over 120 nominations were judged across 11 categories. Jim Clery, Head of Real Estate at KPMG said: “I would like to thank the many participants who entered such high standard applications for their businesses, buildings and achievements.” Chaired by Professor Brian Norton, President of DIT, the judges comprised of leaders from related professional bodies, including: Kathryn Meghen, CEO of RIAI, Aine Myler, Director General SCSI and Sean Lenihan of Engineers Ireland.

The 2018 Overall Winner Award went to SISK. SISK have been delivering excellence for over 150 years by building trust, certainty and value for clients. Protecting the welfare of future generations is also reflected in SISKs approach to sustainability & bringing environmental, social and economic benefits to clients and the wider community. SISKs portfolio covers all areas of construction. Almost everywhere you look in Ireland, you are likely to come across Sisk as part of our built environment. It is not just roads, railways, offices, factories, educational, recreational and health facilities but homes. And that is what Ireland needs, homes that people live in. Sisk returned to the housebuilding space in 2016 after nearly a decade of focusing entirely on commercial and industrial projects, which still make up its core business. On the residential side, SISK acts in the affordable housing space and indicates that it can build houses and sell to local authorities at around €160,000-€170,000 per unit. SISK is also bidding for a 500 social houses project on six sites across greater Dublin which would be developed on a public-private partnership basis.

Speaking at the Awards, Paul Muldoon of INM, said, “While these awards are about recognising excellence, there is also the very important element that all nominees and winners are contributing not just to the economy but to the wellbeing of the nation. They are regenerating communities, protecting the environment, designing the future of living and working. Critically and of heightened importance – they are building homes that people can live in and are doing their upmost to generate housing stock. As ever, I am extremely grateful to our sponsors KPMG, PINERGY and Eugene F Collins Solicitors for their continued support. I would also like to thank our Patrons - Hibernia REIT, Irish Life, Cosgrave Developments and Linesight who have been instrumental in the development of the very important educational element of these awards - funding of the DIT Doctorate in Property Research”.
