The RIAI in partnership with John McCarthy FRIAI, Architect and Fire Safety Consultant is pleased to announce a seminar on Friday 29 January 2009 in Galway covering the implications of BS9999.

In publishing BS9999:2008  (Code of Practice for fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings) in October 2008, BSI declared superseded, from April 2009, BS 5588 Parts 5 to 12 inclusive, all of which are cited as “regarded-as-satisfying” sources of design guidance in Technical Guidance Document B (Fire Safety). Despite this development, the BS 5588 codes remain the relevant design guidance for the purposes of TGD B conformance.
BS 9999 provides an alternative source of design guidance which incorporates significant changes in the approach to the design of means of escape and construction, together with the introduction of the concept of “Risk Profile” as a key factor in the determination of appropriate fire safety provisions in the design/construction/management of a building.
The key topics of BS 9999 and the BS 5588 series that will to be compared/contrasted in the seminar are:
·      Risk Profiles and assessing risk
·      Means of Escape
·      Fire Fighting Access
·      Structure/Configuration
·      Management
Presenters:            John McCarthy FRIAI
CPD Points:            Structured CPD Points
Class size:             30 maximum
