Forestry as a Central Pillar in the Bioeconomy is organised by Society of Irish Foresters and the Wood Marketing Federation, which takes place in Johnstown House Hotel, Enfield, Co. Meath on Wednesday, 30 May 2018.

Karen McEvoy (MRIAI) of Bucholz McEvoy and Markus Lager speaking on the National forestry conference. 

Karen McEvoy, from the award winning practice  Bucholz McEvoy Architects, will outline what has been achieved so far in engineered wood buildings in Ireland. Followed up by presentations from architect Markus Lager and Pekka Leskinen, Head of the Bioeconomy Programme with the European Forest Institute. 

The speakers include:

  • Andrew Doyle, Minister of State with responsibility for forestry to provide conference keynote address.
  • Karen McEvoy, Director, Bucholz McEvoy Architects, Ireland's leading and award winning architectural practice designing in sawn and cross laminated timber.
  • Gerard Murphy, Managing Director Coillte Forest and chair of the panel that produced  the COFORD report Growing the Irish Forest Bioeconomy on the role of the timber processing sector.
  • Markus Lager of Kaden + Lager Architects, Berlin  one of Europe's leading architects in designing high rise buildings in engineered wood, mainly CLT. 
  • Pekka Leskinen,  Head of the Bioeconomy Programme,  European Forest Institute and  expert on the role of forestry in the bioeconomy from the forest to end product.
  • Kenny McCauley,  Director, McCauley Wood Fuels Ltd., on the importance of localised wood energy in meeting Ireland's renewable energy targets.
  • Prof. Kevin O'Connor, School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Science in University College Dublin,  founder and CEO of Bioplastech on the need for greater research and development in wood and wood products.

The conference will be chaired by Fergal Leamy, CEO, Coillte and Dr. Sandra O'Connell, RIAI Director of Architecture & Communications,
