Tolka Estuary Greenway
This initial phase of the 2040 Masterplan for Dublin Port has created a new accessible community-driven Greenway, that connects from Dublin City to its Port.
The Architects responded to the brief with innovations in urban design and construction techniques to balance public access and amenity with sensitive ecological environments, coastal engineering works and live Port operations. They also coordinated the delivery of this urban design project within a live Port working environment, both above and below ground.
The new public realm delivers a sequence of strategically placed public spaces along a clearly delineated greenway. Each space integrates salvaged heritage elements, native planting to restore biodiversity and resting platforms which embrace new vistas across the Tolka estuary. A palette of robust and high-quality materials, detailing and finishes responds to the context, while creating a cohesive public realm along the 2.2km greenway.
This beautiful urban realm offers a new perspective for the city and of the city.
