This conversion of a disused grain store into a public library in Kinsale is a great example of how good design can energise a community and become a focal point for local interaction. This contemporary intervention, using different forms of timber construction inside the old shell of the building, is very successfully handled and the brave insertion of a landscape window in the gable demonstrates a confidence and sensitivity. This project should act as an exemplar of how reuse and adaption can be exciting as well as sustainable.
