The Department of the Environment, Climate & Communications Headquarters is an excellent example of a large-scale retrofit that has achieved great operational energy improvements from a C3 BER rating to an impressive A. The project demonstrates a 75% reduction in primary energy, while retaining the existing structural frame and exterior façade. Thermal modelling diagrams show that thermal bridging has been significantly improved and 97% of construction waste was also recycled. This entry goes beyond the RIAI climate challenge targets and is an exemplary retrofit project for Ireland that can be applied to other buildings, making an important contribution to climate change action.
