Church Square, Monaghan
The revitalised Church Square in Monaghan showcases the Architect’s understanding to protect the value of this town square and the importance of providing a flexible public realm within our communities. This project is part of a wider urban regeneration plan by Monaghan County Council and was realised through collaboration with local stakeholders to reimagine this space as a thriving, multifunctional public realm.
The simplicity of this open free space cloaks the extent of adaptability which has been embedded in the design. The design removed unnecessary obstructions and created a pedestrian-oriented and unified space through high-quality paving, elegant lighting masts and the integration of multiple power and data points. It can host markets, festivals and incidental gatherings, now and into the future. This project has returned an essential public space back to its community, which reflects their needs to share, celebrate and enjoy life within this vibrant town.
