This two day training workshop introduces participants to the key principles of Universal Design to ensure all aspects of the built environment are accessible and also equips them with the skills to prepare and review a Disability Access Certificate application. It covers the key amendments of Part M 2010 and increases awareness of the implications of TGD M 2010.

Training aim

The aim of this course is to equip participants with an understanding of the concept of Universal Design, the requirements of Part M 2010 and assist in the preparation or review of a Disability Access Certificate Applications.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the concepts of Universal Accessibility and Universal Design.
  • Explore the key design criteria for an accessible building and its surroundings.
  • Understand the key amendments of Part M 2010 & increased awareness of the implications of Technical Guidance Document M 2010 on the design of new buildings, extensions, material alterations and certain material changes of use.
  • Strengthen their knowledge of the Disability Act 2005, Part M of the Building Regulations, Building Control Act 2007 and other relevant legislation and their understanding of an accessible design process.
  • Appreciate the key role of management in maintaining built environment accessibility.
  • Learn the key requirements and criteria to develop or review a Disability Access Certificate Application.
  • Explore opportunities for disability proofing the planning and design processes.
  • Reflect on learning’s from best practice case studies.
