John Meagher Memorial Bursary

The John Meagher Memorial Bursary supports a fourth-year architecture student to travel to Finland and/or Sweden to study the work of Alvar Aalto, Sigurd Lewerentz and others, in memory of the esteemed Architect, John Meagher, recipient of the RIAI Gold Medal and RIAI Gandon Medal.
Fourth-year students from RIAI-accredited schools of architecture are invited to make applications for this bursary with:
- A sketchbook(s) documenting your fourth year studio work
- A 250-word (max.) narrative outlining your proposed study trip
Queries and applications for this bursary should be submitted to your tutors.
Sketch books can be submitted to the RIAI Bookshop, for the attention of Dr Sandra O'Connell, with a covering note stating the student's name, student number and academic institution.
The award will be made by John Meagher’s nominated jury – Shelley McNamara, Rachael Chidlow and Paul Keogh – and the award to the winning student, to cover all travel and subsistence, will be €5,000.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, 29 May 2026.
