This CPD provides architects with a practical understanding of how to specify timber responsibly and sustainably in line with UK and EU compliance requirements. The session explores the role of fast-growing, new growth timber species in reducing embodied carbon and introduces carbon-conscious design strategies for both interior and exterior applications. Participants will learn the principles of thermal modification and its impact on timber durability, stability, and long-term performance. The session also covers durability classifications, relevant testing methods, and their application to sustainable design and cladding solutions. Finally, testing requirements and certification processes are outlined to ensure architects can specify timber products with confidence, meeting regulatory standards while advancing low-carbon, future-focused design.
