26 York Street, RCSI
Architect:
Henry J Lyons
Award Type:
Irish Architecture Awards
Location:
Dublin
This new addition to the RCSI is an open building on a solid street of concrete and stone, its transparency a beacon for the college, drawing students and staff in. Inside the central atrium at once orientates, pulling the building together through connections, colours, light and movement and yet enables the various departments the separation required. The ease in which users and spaces flow in composed clam beguiles the hard work that the building does, bringing together a multitude of uses on a very tight site. There is also a sense of fun and familiarity that attracts the students to spend time there, a home away from home.
