The President of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI), Carole Pollard, welcomed the Action Plan for Rural Development and the focus on building sustainable communities throughout Ireland, in particular the commitment to increasing occupancy in town and village centres.
The RIAI is currently developing the RIAI Town and Village Toolkit to inform, support and inspire the future development of Irish towns. The Toolkit, which will be launched later this year, is aimed at empowering and supporting councils, chambers of commerce and communities in their endeavours to improve the quality of their town or village. The Toolkit is architect and design-led and has been funded by the Government Policy on Architecture.
Carole Pollard said, “The role of the architect is essential to ensure good design and quality delivery is at the heart of initiatives to improve the living and working environment of rural dwellers.”
