Europan 10 (2009)

Europan launches its 10th session on 19 January 2009 on the theme “Inventing urbanity: Regeneration – Revitalization – Colonization”
From this date, competitors will find on the website, www.europan-europe.com all the necessary information on the theme, the sites, the calendar and the rules, and will be able to register online and download the complete site files.
19 countries, 61 cities throughout Europe propose urban scale sites and await innovative ideas and projects:
In Austria: Eisenstadt, Graz and Wien. In Belgium: Gembloux ang Liège. In Croatia: Rijeka and Zagreb. In Denmark: Aarhus, Augustenborg, Copenhagen, Kolding and Rudkoebing. In Estonia: Tallinn. In Finland: Järvenpää and Tampere. In France: Alès, Dunkerque, L’Isle d’Abeau, Saintes, Seilh and Triel-sur-Seine. In Germany: Bottrop, Dessau, Elmshorn, Forchheim, Guben, Heidelberg, Leisnig, München and Nürnberg. In Hungary: Ajka. In Ireland: Galway and Dublin. In Italy: Genova. In Spain: Caceres, Elda, Madrid, Reus, Taboadela, Teruel and Valverde. In Latvia: Riga. In Norway: Oslo, Trondheim and Vardo. In The Netherlands: Emmen, Den Haag and Utrecht. In Poland: Warszawa. How can density and residential quality be reconciled?
Can sustainable projects create both urban density and respect the environment?
These are the questions young European architecture and urban planning professionals will have to answer by choosing a site amongst three types of sites: those that must strongly transform the existing site (regeneration), those that must both keep their identity and re-dynamise their programme (revitalization) and those that must undergo a development (colonization).
Launching this 10th session, Europan counts on the young urban design professionals, to reveal their ideas and their talents, and on the projects’ innovative power to install urbanity in each site’s specific context.
