Architects Design for Electric Picnic
Published: Tuesday, August 30, 2011
Architecture goes live this year at the music festival Electric Picnic. Architects Bucholz Mc Evoy and Jim Horgan of the Galway School of Boat Building will unveil their competition winning temporary music pavilion, Cruth Curach. By day the pavilion will be a stunning venue and by night a closed sculptural form will glow in the dark to help visitors navigate their way through the festival site. The intriguing structure is made from five curach boats that can rotate, pivot and move on horizontal and vertical axes, giving it a dynamic, multi-faceted appearance. The Pavilion is the result of a design competition organised by the Irish Architecture Foundation and the Crafts Council of Ireland earlier this year.
Highlights of Electric Picnic at Cruth Curach include:
Friday: FUSION - Furniture & Architecture with Gareth Sullivan and Fergal O'Leary. A discussion on cross collaboration between furniture makers and architects.
Saturday & Sunday: Cruth Curach creators Bucholz McEvoy Architects and Jim Horgan in conversation.
Saturday: SOUND! Architects Marcus Donaghy and Steve Larkin talk about architecture, music, craft and the evolution of modern practice through conversation with tradition.
