The RIAI, in partnership with Joseph Little Architects, is pleased to announce the launch of Designing Low-Energy Domestic Refurbs - Optimising long term value for your Client, an intensive one day programme designed specifically for professionals in the field of architecture.
The aim of the course is to give attending architects practical and focused tips and tools to design better energy-efficient refurbishments, and to be able to prove the value of their design to the client.
- Lifetime planning for refurbishments
- Using the SEI grant system
- Optimising the Client’s money
- Learning to use DEAP as a design tool**
- Air tightness in old buildings and the regulations
- Back to the basics of building physics – thermal performance (U, Lamdda & Y-values), condensation & health
- Understanding which insulations suit which refurbishment
- Dispelling technical myths and misconceptions
- Ventilation systems, heating controls
- New, better ways of calculating payback and of comparing alternate proposals (with accompanying software)
- Giving the Client advise on refurbs appropriate to their lifestyle
