Programme Objectives:
The aim of this course is to equip participants with an understanding of universal access and universal access design in the built and external environment.
Learning Objectives:
Participants who successfully complete this course will:
- Understand the concepts of Universal Accessibility and Universal Desgin
- Explore the key design criteria for an accessible building and its surrounds
- Strengthen their knowledge of the Disability Act 2005, Part M of the Building Regulations, Building Control Act 2007 and other relevant legislation
- Appreciate the key role of Management in maintaining the built environment
- Learn the key requirements and criteria to develop a Disability Access Certficiate
- Explore opportunities for disability proofing the planing and design processes
- Develop a route appraisal checklist including identifying barriers and solutions
- Negotiate with stakeholders for the implementation of ongoing and future work
- Reflect on learnings from best practice case studies.
