This online course comprises of a live recording of the RAI Business CPD  - Developing Sustainable Careers in Architecture. The RIAI Business CPD is designed to provide you with some of the tools necessary to develop your business.

The Presenters include RIAI members and experts from the field sharing their experience of what works and doesn't work for them.

Course Aim:
The aim of this Business CPD is to help develop sustainable careers in architecture by supporting RIAI members in the further development of their business skills and showcase alternative approaches to the business challenges and opportunities for small to medium architectural practices.

Course Format:
The RIAI Business CPD covers three key themes:

• Valuing your service and charging for it
• Marketing strategy and PR
• HR: Attracting and maintaining the right staff

This online CPD course is delivered via RIAI Digital Chalk

  • Following receipt of your payment via MyRIAI you will receive an email from the RIAI CPD Division providing your login details for RIAI Digital Chalk
  • This online course will be accessible from your RIAI Digital Chalk account for 6 months from the date of registration
  • The course concludes with a short quiz on based on the content of the online presentation.
  • The RIAI will send you a CPD certificate for 5 structured CPD points on successful completion of the quiz.

Each session will begin with a presentation on the theme for that session by a keynote speaker as an expert in the field. The theme will then be addressed by a number of RIAI members who have kindly agreed to share their approach to the particular topic to hand using case studies and examples of their personal experience.

The RIAI, in partnership with Safety by Design and Scott MacNeill Architects, are pleased to launch the PSDP refresher course. Only Architects and Architectural Technologists who currently hold RIAI PSDP Accreditation are eligible to attend.

Course Aim:
To provide Architects and Architectural Technologists who have successfully completed the RIAI accredited PSDP Course with an opportunity to refresh their knowledge of the role of the PSDP and the RIAI recommended system to assist them in undertaking the role of the Project Supervisor Design Process.

Course Learning Outcomes:
The course will provide a refresher on the duties of the PSDP and the duties of the others in relation to Construction Health and Safety legislation.

The RIAI PSDP course offers eligible participants:

  • The opportunity to review any changes to Health and Safety legislation introduced since they successfully completed the RIAI accredited PSDP course.
  • The opportunity to review the systematic approach to acting in the role of PSDP as presented in the RIAI Accredited PSDP course.
  • The opportunity to share their experience of acting in the role of PSDP with their peers and the trainers and to discuss the appropriate response to specific challenges encountered in that role.

Course Format:
The course is delivered as a 1 day session in-classroom via lectures and workshops. This is an intense and interactive course from start to finish with involvement from participants in workshops and discussions.

Please note that the RIAI will charge a €50 administration fee on bookings cancelled more than 5 working days in advance of programme delivery. Cancellations made within 2-5 working days of programme delivery will be charged 75% of the full fee. Cancellations on the day of the programme or on the day before will result in the full amount being charged. Substitution, subject to eligibility, is allowed.

RIAI Conservation Series:Arthur Gibney’s “The Building Site in Eighteenth Century Ireland " by Livia Hurley

The RIAI present a CPD series focused on conservation issues including work on protected structures or historic buildings of outstanding significance, architectural history and heritage.

Course Aim:
The aim of this CPD series is to support the maintenance of a high level of professional competence among practitioners whose work involves protected structures and other significant elements of the architectural heritage. The seminars will focus on both the philosophy of conservation and the management of materials on conservation projects.

Each session will focus on a case-study of a particular conservation project with presentations by one or more speakers with direct involvement in that project. Where possible the presentations will include a review of the approach to a particular technical challenge to enable practitioners to build up knowledge of a particular aspect of conservation practice. Each presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

The series is particularly aimed at RIAI Grade 1 and Grade 2 Conservation Architects and Architects accredited in Conservation at Grade 3. Members who do not have particular conservation expertise are welcome to attend the seminars but should bear in mind that the presentations will be pitched at a level suitable for those with expertise in this area.

Event Format:
Capacity 60 participants in a lecture theatre style.
